The Struggle for Calstock Viaduct — Film and Talk
Calstock Arts hosts the launch screening of a new documentary by retired BBC correspondent Neil Gallacher, exploring the immense engineering battle to build Calstock Viaduct. The film draws on remarkable black-and-white stills from the Calstock Parish Archive — photographs originally taken by local shopkeeper Frederick Paul and sold as postcards over a century ago. These images tell the story of a construction fraught with difficulty, much of it carried out deep underwater on the riverbed. The evening includes a talk by Neil and a Q&A led by civil engineer Vic Harman, trustee of the Archive. Timings are designed to suit anyone travelling by train along the scenic Tamar Valley line.
