Acrylics for Beginners – Bold, Fast & Loose!

Book your place — £35 → We will spend a fun-filled half-day immersed in the world of acrylics for beginners, which will include impasto techniques and a look at landscape work. We will establish a base set of acrylic painting skills and then deconstruct and simplify objects and references, enabling us to capture them in acrylics using thickly laid passages of paint, either with a brush or a palette knife. By the end of the afternoon, we will have developed confidence in using acrylics and also applying paint thickly to the canvas, incorporating some on-canvas mixing and blending, without creating a muddy texture. We’ll get a bit messy, have loads of fun, kickstart a new painting habit (and technique), and enjoy cake from the café! What could be better? No previous experience is necessary; a no-excuse price with materials provided! The afternoon will be filled with fast-paced learning exercises and mini-tutorials to entertain and help you make significant strides in your confidence and control in this interesting and freeing technique. Impasto is a technique used in painting, where paint is laid on an area of the surface thickly, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. Paint can also be mixed right on the canvas. When dry, impasto provides texture; the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas.
