Abstract painting day for beginners, St Ives
This one-day workshop at Barnoon Arts in St Ives takes you through the essentials of abstract painting, from morning warm-ups to a finished canvas by the end of the afternoon. Working with acrylic and mixed media, you'll explore mark-making, collage, reduction and improvisation — the same building blocks that shaped the St Ives modernist tradition. The day draws inspiration from artists including Patrick Heron, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Terry Frost, giving the exercises a sense of place and purpose. Morning sessions focus on loosening up and experimenting; the afternoon gives you space to bring it all together in a completed painting on canvas. You leave with that painting, a notebook of ideas and exercises, and a clearer sense of your own emerging style. All materials and refreshments are included in the £65 ticket price. Suitable for complete beginners and anyone curious about abstract work.
