Baka Beyond: Sing the World Awake
Baka Beyond return to the Acorn with their new album, Sing the World Awake, and a new lease of life. For over 30 years they have been blending African and Celtic music with a hint of psychedelia to create a unique form of dance music. Inspired by the Baka Pygmies of Cameroon, founders Martin Cradick and Su Hart were deeply moved by the Baka's music during their first visit to the Cameroon rainforest, prompting them to share that experience with the world. The Baka believe there are spirits who live in the forest who like to dance with people, and see the purpose of music as encouraging those spirits to come and dance and make problems disappear. On stage, Martin and Su are joined by Ayodele Scott (Sierra Leone) and Kibisingo Douglas (Congo), bringing the authentic African groove, with Clyde Kramer on drums and fiddler Ben Moneypenny bringing the Celtic flair. Ellie Jamison weaves her voice with Su's over Martin's intricate guitar.
