Devonport Column self-guided tour
Built between 1824 and 1827, the Devonport Column has been one of the area's most recognisable structures for nearly two centuries — serving variously as a civic monument and a WWII fire watch station. Tours begin at Market Hall, where you can ascend the historic spiral staircase to take in panoramic views across Plymouth, Devonport and the River Tamar. Tickets are £3 plus a booking fee, and pre-booking is required. It's a straightforward outing that suits history enthusiasts, curious locals, and anyone wanting a different perspective on this corner of the South West.
