Four Seasons and The Lark Ascending by Candlelight, Truro
London Concertante bring Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending, and Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro to Truro Cathedral on Thursday 19 November at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:45 pm and the concert runs until approximately 9:30 pm. Tickets are £27.80–£76.55. At the heart of the programme is Vivaldi's Four Seasons, in which each concerto depicts a different season shaped by accompanying poems — evoking birdsong and buzzing flies, harvest celebrations, drunken revellers, barking dogs, summer storms and winter ice. Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending, composed on the eve of the First World War and inspired by George Meredith's poem, offers a more reflective perspective. Its soaring violin line suggests a lark gliding high above the mechanised world below. The programme opens with Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, drawn from Beaumarchais' recently banned comedy in which a philandering count attempts to seduce his servant's fiancée, only to be outmanoeuvred by the servants and his own long-suffering wife. The event is open to all ages and takes place in person. The organiser's refund policy allows no refunds.
