Hannah Snyed: The Selkie Who Stayed

Hannah Snyed performs The Selkie Who Stayed and other stories, an evening of storytelling, at Calstock Arts on Friday 13 November at 8pm. The show retells the classic selkie myth: a selkie woman comes ashore, dances under moonlight, and falls for a sailor. Choosing to stay, she surrenders her bond with the ocean for family life — but as the years pass she is tethered to a growing child and domestic routine, migrating between the washing machine, the oven, and the school gate. Torn between loyalty and longing, depression and quiet rage, the show is described as hilarious, heartfelt and darkly intimate, reshaping the myth for the age of consent. The evening opens with Tales of Freyja, a collection of stories of the fierce Norse goddess. Tickets are £5.50–£11.
