Landscape to Abstraction at St Ives School of Painting

Landscape to Abstraction at St Ives School of Painting

🗓Fri 30 Oct 2026
Ticketed

This three-day course at St Ives School of Painting takes the Cornish landscape as its starting point, drawing inspiration from Wilhelmina Barns-Graham's celebrated studies of sea, rock and coastline. Tutor Kitty Hillier leads participants from Porthmeor Beach — where the course begins with drawing and observation — back into the studio to develop work through collage, paint and mixed media. The course runs from 30 October to 1 November and is designed to suit all levels of experience. All materials are included, so you can arrive ready to work without worrying about what to bring. It sits alongside Barns-Graham's major retrospective at Tate St Ives this autumn, making it a good moment to engage more deeply with her approach to abstracting the Cornish landscape.
