Liz Jones & Broken Windows at The Acorn
Liz Jones & Broken Windows return to The Acorn in Penzance on Sunday 8 November for what they call a second Sunday of "peaceful debauchery". Their sound draws on roots, blues and psychedelia, with a spirit they describe as firmly in the 60s tradition of free music. The band draw comparisons to Little Feat, The Faces and Fleetwood Mac — similarities the source puts in stage buzz and a refusal to be boxed in, each tune taken wherever it leads. Live shows are described as a wild mix of genre celebration and creative musicianship. Among the players is Jivin' Johnny Bruce, known to UK Blues fans from Blues'N'Trouble, Edinburgh's farthest travelled blues group. Classic Rock Magazine wrote of Blues'N'Trouble: "Corralling some of Scotland's best players, this six-piece have the talent to roam beyond the prescribed pentatonic box … the title track (to Double Measures) is a winningly wonky gypsy-jazz lurch." This is a pay-what-you-can event, priced from £12 to £18. Under 18s are £8.
