"Missionaries, Mercenaries and Misfits" — talk by Glen Morris
"Missionaries, Mercenaries and Misfits", subtitled "Travels in a Cold Heaven", is an illustrated talk by Glen Morris at Calstock Arts on Friday 6 November at 7:30 pm. Tickets are £5.50. Morris has travelled extensively through Arctic regions, living with the Inuit of Northern Greenland and Arctic Canada and following in the footsteps of explorers from the heroic age. He also conceived the Arctic Voice project, an environmental initiative designed to link young people across the Arctic north with children in the UK. The talk draws on those travels to examine the Arctic's people, flora and fauna, and the massive threat to its existence. It also explores what indigenous cultures can teach about our bonds with nature, and how western white colonialism has shaped our lives — and will, unless change happens, continue to shape the future.
