Medieval Music at Calstock Arts

Musica Medievalis is an instrumental journey through the music of medieval Europe, spanning the 12th to 15th centuries. Marco Cannavo, Steve Tyler and Katy Marchant perform on a remarkable collection of historical instruments, including hurdy-gurdy and its early predecessors, bagpipes, harp, lute, citole, portative organ and percussion. The programme draws from both sacred and secular traditions, moving from haunting melodies once heard in churches at Christmas to lively tunes played at seasonal gatherings and communal festivities. Rooted in historical sources yet interpreted with imaginative freedom, this is a chance to hear the sounds of centuries past brought to life at Calstock Arts.
