Nils Kavanagh Trio at Calstock

Irish-Danish pianist Nils Kavanagh performs music from his debut album "No Expectations" at The Old Chapel in Tintagel, a venue well-suited to intimate, atmospheric jazz. The music draws on his upbringing in the north-west of Ireland — folk traditions, mythology, landscape — alongside the quieter introspection he found in Scandinavia. Themes of home, family, loss and belonging run through the set, anchored by warm melody and Kavanagh's flair for improvisation. He is joined by Sam Green on drums and Ursula Harrison on bass. Winner of Young Irish Jazz Musician of the Year 2022 and a BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist in 2024, this is a rare chance to hear a compelling young voice early in what looks like a significant career.
