Brian Bilston: How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside
Brian Bilston performs How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude on Sunday 22 November — billed as an alternative guide to writing and enjoying poetry. The show takes in the hows, whys and whats of reading, writing and enjoying poetry every day, with comedy and laughter throughout. Bilston has published several collections including You Took the Last Bus Home, Alexa, what is there to know about love? and Days Like These, and his novel Diary of a Somebody was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award. He has also written poetry collections for younger readers. In 2025 he released Sounds Made by Humans, an album of his poetry set to music made in collaboration with The Catenary Wires. He has been described as the Poet Laureate of Twitter and "part John Cooper-Clarke, part Frank Sidebottom". The seated show starts at 7:30pm and runs in two parts with a short interval at 8:15pm — approximately two and a half hours in total. Wines, beers, spirits and cocktails are available from Alan Colwill of The Outside Inn, with Serendip Sri Lankan Street Food also on offer. Tickets are available via wegottickets, at face value (cash and cards) from Bude Tourist Information Centre, or (cash only) from The Seventh Wave Gallery and Spencer Thorn Bookshop. Please bring cash for a raffle raising funds for a local good cause. Disabled parking is available at the Parkhouse Centre.
