Old Spot at The Acorn, Penzance
Old Spot are Rowan Piggott and Joe Danks, a duo working in the old-time and stringband tradition. They play The Acorn in Penzance on Thursday 19 November at 8pm. The duo came together in 2023 and have since toured across the UK and Europe, playing folk, bluegrass, and old-time festivals. Their second album, Old Spot (II), was recorded in the Scottish Borders. Joe Danks plays 5-string and gourd banjo. He grew up surrounded by American folk music and has played across a range of genres, with old-time and the five-string banjo now central to his work. Rowan Piggott plays 5-string fiddle and viola, and grew up in the foothills of the Burren on the west coast of Ireland. He is known for his work with folk trio The Wilderness Yet, and draws on Irish, English and Swedish traditional influences within old-time grooves.
