Pedn Billy Open Garden, Helford Passage

Pedn Billy's 12-acre garden sits above Frenchman's Creek on the Helford River, and on Sunday 13 September it opens to visitors from 2 to 5pm. The garden carries a remarkable history — from wartime Special Operations Executive activity to inspiring Daphne du Maurier, and a moment when Captain William Bligh was mistaken for a French spy while charting the river. Alongside the terraced borders, specimen trees and woodland paths leading down to a private beach, there's plenty to enjoy on the day: an exhibition of paintings by local artist Karen Hemsley-Biggs, a bat discovery session run by knowledgeable volunteers, plant and cut flower sales in aid of Cornwall Wildlife Trust, and homemade cakes on the patio. Entry is £7 for adults, free for under-16s. Please bring cash — signal is very limited at the garden. Dogs welcome on a lead.
