Stone Club: talks and films at The Exchange, Penzance
Stone Club takes place in The Engine Room at The Exchange, Penzance, on Friday 13 November at 5pm. The evening features film screenings and talks from Rupert White, Lally MacBeth, Matthew Shaw, Teän Roberts and Layan Harman. Rupert White is editor of artcornwall.org and author of several books including Folk in Cornwall: Music and Musicians of the 60s Revival, Magic and Modernism: Art from Cornwall in Context, and Bride of Quietness: Ithell Colquhoun in Cornwall. Teän Roberts and Layan Harman are an artist duo whose film work includes screenings at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. Their project the Scilly Labyrinths — and the film Vanishing Labyrinths of the Isles of Scilly — centres on the practice of building pebble mazes near the coasts of the Isles of Scilly, described in the source as a pre-20th century tradition unique in Britain. The project was delivered in partnership with the Isles of Scilly Museum and Cultural Centre, and supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Lally MacBeth is an artist, writer and curator, founder of The Folk Archive and co-founder of Stone Club. Her first book, The Lost Folk, was published by Faber. Matthew Shaw is an artist, author and curator and co-founder of Stone Club with Lally MacBeth; his book Atmosphere of Mona, a collection of poetry and photography, was published by Annwyn House in 2020. Tickets are £11.55. Refunds are available up to seven days before the event.
