Pendennis and St Mawes: Defending the Nation
The National Maritime Museum Cornwall hosts the first of three evening lectures this autumn, each digging into how war shaped Cornwall's landscape and maritime past. On 17 September, historian Emma Hughes — known as The Lady Time Traveller — takes the stage to examine the twin Tudor fortresses of Pendennis and St Mawes, built to guard the Fal estuary against invasion. The lecture is part of a wider series running through to November, with later talks covering wartime tales from Falmouth's past and Cornwall's covert Second World War special operations.
